KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team has earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2026 MIAA Baseball Championship in Edmond, Okla.
The No. 5 ranked Gorillas (40-9, 27-9 MIAA) wrapped up the regular season going 12-1 in the final 13 games to claim the 2026 MIAA Regular Season Championship. The Gorillas earned the outright regular season crown and the tournament's No. 1 seed after Rogers State University (38-12, 26-10 MIAA) dropped a 5-3 decision to Missouri Western State University Saturday at St. Joseph, Mo.
Pitt State will travel to Edmond, Okla., to compete in the 10-team single elimination MIAAÂ Baseball Championships on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma beginning Thursday (May 7) in the quarterfinal round at 1:00 p.m. (CDT) at Wendell Simmons Field.
The opponent for the Gorillas will be the lowest advancing seed from the opening round of games on Wednesday, from the quartet of No. 7 seed Missouri Western, No. 8 seed Washburn University, No. 9 seed Central Oklahoma and No. 10 seed Fort Hays State University.
Semifinal games Friday (May 8) will begin at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., with the championship game scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday (May 9).
The 2026 MIAA Baseball Championship winner will earn the automatic bid to the 2026 NCAA Division II National Tournament.
In the latest Central Region rankings announced by the NCAA on Wednesday (Apr. 29), the Gorillas were ranked No. 1.
