PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University women's outdoor track & field team exited day two action of the 2026 MIAA Outdoor Championships in first place Saturday (May 2).
The Pitt State women ended Saturday's action at the Russ Jewett Outdoor Track & Field Complex with 70 points, leading second place Missouri Southern State University by 21.5 points (48.5).
The Gorillas men finished Saturday with 50 points to tie for second place with Washburn University, 17 points behind day two leader MSSU (67 points).
Bethany Umbarger captured an MIAA title in the high jump, while
Jazmine Williamson and
Kyra Heald placed second and fourth, respectively, to compile 23 points in the discipline. Umbarger cleared 5 feet, 9 inches; Williams finished at 5-7.75 and Heald cleared 5-5.25.
Jade Meade added an eighth place finish in the discus (145) and
Phoebe Fletcher closed out the day with a seventh place showing in the steeplechase (11:23.17).
Lily Brown opened the day by placing third overall in the heptathlon with 5,101 points.
On the men's side,
Matthew Malmstrom captured the MIAA title in the decathlon with 7,054 points.
Xavier Byers also added an MIAA Championship in the high jump with a personal best clearance of 6-11.75.
Drake Stapleton added an MIAA runner-up finish in the discus (177-10), while
Brennan Boord placed seventh in the discipline (169-1).
In women's qualifying races, Brenna Winn (24.29) and
Kiara Brown (24.49) advanced in the 200 meters;
Kelsey Bruening qualified in the 800 meters (2:16.01); and
Zyra Shivers (13.51),
Kayvon Nubine (13.68),
McKinlee Walker (13.84) and Winn (13.95) advanced in the 100-meter hurdles.
Pitt State men advancing on the track to Sunday finals included:
Braylon Thompson (21.00) and
Kemarri Stewart (21.12) in the 200m;
Caden Uthe (1:50.41) and
Eli Gilmore (1:51.68) in the 800m; and
Tyrone Jackson (13.82),
Na'Koriyon James (14.04) and
Albert House (14.22) in the 110m hurdles.
Sunday's action gets started with the men's javelin at 11 a.m.
