Volleyball Falls to No. 7 Jennies

Box Score WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Though the set scores were close, the Pitt State Volleyball team (9-9) could not overcome the No. 7 Jennies (15-3) in a non-conference match in the Peggy Martin Classic on Saturday (October 6) afternoon. Central Missouri took the match in straight sets, 25-16, 26-24 and 28-26.

The teams were even in blocks, with each team putting down four team blocks. Pitt State won the digs battle, 57-55, but it was on the offensive side that the Jennies took the advantage. The Jennies had seven more kills (50-43) and outhit the Gorillas .271 to .206. Central Missouri also recorded six service aces.

Senior Brooke Fay was the only player that hit in double figures for Pitt State with 10 kills and only one error in 22 attempts. She finished the night with a .409 hitting percentage. Leah Flynn added nine kills, Crystal Whitten, eight, and NIcole Rockhold and Paula Okrutna each added seven.

Three Gorillas each recorded nine digs, Becca Pearson, Sam Wyatt and Christa McCaw. Pearson needed just one more dig for a double-double, as she also led the team with 22 assists on the match. Haylee Gregory and Crystal Whitten led the team in blocks, each with a block solo and a block assist.

Bradye Peniston led all players with 13 kills. Taylor Goodness added 12 and Hillary McCormick, 10. Annie Reilly led all players with 14 digs.

Pitt State will take the match on Wednesday, October 10 at 7 p.m. for their lone home match in October. The match will be the annual Block for Breast Cancer match as the Gorillas will use their blocks to help raise money for Via Christi Cancer Center and Angels Among Us. The PSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will also be continuing their food drive for hungry children in the Pittsburg area.
