PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pitt State softball team returns to MIAA league play this weekend as the team travels east to face Lindenwood in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday (March 22) and Truman at noon on Saturday (March 23). Please note the time for the Truman doubleheader has been pushed up an hour from previously published times.

LIndenwood is 9-11 overall and 2-2 in MIAA play. The team split doubleheaders with both Lincoln and Truman, losing to Truman 3-1 before winning 8-7 in eight innings and beating Lincoln 3-0, before falling 8-0 in game two. The Lions hit .264 as a team and have a 5.29 ERA.

Truman is 13-5 overall and 1-1 in league play. The only league games the Bulldogs have played was the games against Lindenwood. Truman will play Missouri Southern on Friday before the Gorillas come to Kirksville on Saturday. The Bulldogs hit .327 as a team and have a 3.27 ERA.

Pitt State is 14-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play. PItt State won both games against Northeastern State and lost two, each by only one run, to Central Oklahoma to begin league play. Pitt State is hitting .298 as a team and has five players hitting over .300 on the season. The team is led by Tiffany Brown with a .390 batting average. She also leads the team with seven home runs and 20 RBI. Katelyn Birchfield has a .368 batting average and shares the team lead in runs scored with Brenna George. 

The Gorilla pitchers have a 2.39 ERA and hold opponents to a .236 batting average. Kylie Harpst has the team low ERA at 1.83. She and Haleigh Sills each have a 3-1 record. Kyndel Shelburn has thrown the most innings for the Gorillas. She has a 5-3 record with one save. Each of her three losses were by only one run. She has thrown 65.1 innings and struck out a team-leading 76 batters. She holds opponents to a .197 batting average.
