PITTSBURG -- The Missouri Western State University softball team won a pair of tightly-contestes games over Pittsburg State University, 3-1 and 4-3, Saturday (Mar. 30) at the PSU Softball Complex.
The Gorillas have lost six straight games to fall to 17-15 overall and 5-7 in MIAA play, while the Griffons improved to 24-8 overall and 8-2 in the MIAA.
MWSU broke open a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the fifth inning in game one.
Kreslee Ketchman hit her eighth home run of the season to trim the margin to 2-1 in the sixth inning, but the Griffons tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to seal the victory.
In game two, Western struck for three first-inning runs before Ketcham belted a two-run shot for trim the margin to 3-2 in the bottom of the opening frame.
The Gorillas outhit the Griffons, 11-5, in the contest, but managed just one more run in the sixth inning. Western also plated a run in the third for a 4-2 lead.
Pitt State will return to action next Friday (Apr. 5) when the Gorillas travel to Emporia, Kan., to face Emporia State University in a 3 p.m. (CDT) doubleheader.
