PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Due to a rainy weather forcast for Wednesday, the Pitt State softball games schedule for Wednesday at 5 and 7 p.m. against Missouri Southern have now been moved to Tuesday (April 16) at 5 and 7 p.m. The outcome of the game will help to determine the Sonic Trophy Series point for softball.

The Gorillas are just ahead of the Lions in the MIAA standings, as they are tied for eighth with LIndenwood with a 9-11 league record and a 21-19 overall record. The Lions sit in 11th with an 8-12 conference reord and a 21-21 record overall.

The Lions split their last two outings with a win and a loss each against Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney last weekend. They are hitting .280 as a team with a .956 fielding percentage and a 3.69 ERA.

Shelby Romines leads five Lions hitting over .300 on the season with a .371 batting average. She leads the team in hits (49), doubles (11), home runs (7), RBI (31) and walks (23). She has a .629 slugging percentage and a .465 on base percentage. Alana Hester has a .310 batting average and leads the team in runs scored with 33 and stolen bases with 24. Other players hitting above .300 include Brooklyn Farrell (.326), Michala Wood (.305) and Brooke Swadley (.303).

Sarah Williams leads the Missouri Southern pitching staff with a 2.73 ERA. She has thrown 82.0 innings, striking out 39 batters and walking 40. She has a 5-6 record with one shut out and one save in 21 appearances . Haley Kinnison has a 3.31 ERA and a 6-4 record with two shut outs in 17 appearances. She has a staff-low .230 opponent batting average. She leads the team with 77 strikeouts. Haley Pypes has the most appearances of the season with 22. She has a 7-7 record with one save.

Pittsburg State has a .289 team batting average (335-1159) with 217 runs scored, a .446 slugging percentage and a.366 on base percentage. The defense has a .966 fielding percentage. The Gorilla pitchers hace a 3.29 ERA and hold opponents to a .256 batting average.

The Gorillas have seven players hitting over .300 for the season, led by Kreslee Ketcham with a .349 average, though Tiffany Brown is just behind her at .348. Samantha Grove (.333), Katelyn Birchfield (.318), Cheslyn Mitchell (.313), Kalya Sears (.309) and Catie Cummins (.302) are all hitting over .300. Many different players lead the Gorillas in different offensive categories. Ketcham leads in home runs (9), slugging percentage (.611) and on base percentage (.425). Brown leads in hits (47) and doubles (10). Birchfield leads in RBI (33). Brenna George leads in runs scored (33) and stolen bases (18). Jordan Bradshaw leads in triples (2) and walks (25).

Kyndel Shelburn leads the pitching staff with a 2.47 ERA and a .200 opponent batting average. On Saturday (April 13), she held Fort Hays State to just one hit in 10 innings of work. The freshman has a 7-7 record with 11 complete games, three shut outs and two saves in 20 appearances. She has thrown 113.1 innings, striking out 135 batters and walking 40. Kylie Harpst has a 2.85 ERA and a 4-3 record. Samantha Grove has a 3.31 ERA and a 5-3 record with one save.
