PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Senior Day was very productive for the Pittsburg State softball team. In just three hours, the team won two games over Southweast Baptist, 8-0 and 9-0, both in five innings and celebrated seniors Katelyn Birchfield, Kreslee Ketcham and Kayla Sears.

In the two games, Pitt State scored 17 runs off 20 hits and five Bearcat errors. The Gorilla defense also had a good day as four pitchers saw action, striking out 11 batters, while walking only three and giving up only eight hits in the 10 innings played. The defense did not commit an error in the doubleheader.

Brenna George, Kreslee Ketcham and Sam Grove accounted for nine of the Gorillas' 12 hits in game one, as they each were 3-for-3. George and Ketcham each scored two runs and Ketcham had three RBI. George stole three bases.

Pitt State scored first in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run by Ketcham.

In the second, Jordan Bradshaw reached on an error and stole second. She advanced to third on a George bunt single and scored on an RBI ground out by Catie Cummins

Two more runs came in the third on a two-run home run by Katelyn Birchfield.

George led off the fourth with an infield base hit. She stole second and moved to third on a Cummins fly ball to center. A Ketcham base hit brought George home, them Tiffany Broawn loaded up for a towering home run and the 8-0 lead.

Kyndel Shelburn pitched four innings in the win. She struck out eight batters and gave up four hits. Her record is now 10-8 on the season. Haleigh Sills pitched the final inning in relief and gave up only a walk.

Game two was scoreless until a seven-run third inning for the Gorillas. Riley Campbell reached on an error and advanced to second to lead off. She scored the first run of the game as she came home on a George double. George moved to third on a Cummins ground out. A walk to Ketcham put runners at first and third. Brown drove a sacrifice fly to right to score George. Birchfield hit her second home run of the game for a 4-0 lead. Two more errors and a Bradshaw base hit loaded the bases. In her second at bat of the inning, Riley Campbell drove a base hit to center for two RBI. George got her second hit of the inning, this time a base hit through the left side to score Bradshaw for the seventh run of the inning.

A Brown home run over the scoreboard in the fourth inning was all the Gorillas needed to secure the 9-0 win.

Grove pitched four innings, giving up three hits and one walk while striking out three batters. She improves to 7-3 on the season. Kylie Harpst pitched the final inning, giving up only a hit and a walk.

Pitt State will play its final regular season games on Monday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The outcome of those games will help determine if the team's season will continue at the MIAA Tournament later this week. The Gorillas need to finish in the top eight of the league to make the tournament.
