Softball Sweeps Wayne State and Sioux Falls

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pitt State Softball team earned a 7-5 win in eight innings over Wayne State before a 14-2, five-inning win over Sioux Falls on Friday (Feb. 28) at the PSU Softball Complex.

The Gorillas scored seven runs on 12 hits against Wayne State. The Wildcats had five runs on eight hits and two Pitt State errors. 

Six different Gorillas had hits in the game, five with multiple hits. Brenna George led Pitt State with a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored. She also stole her 61st career base in the eighth inning, setting a new Pitt State record for career stolen bases.

Bailey Letts and McKenzie Rynard each went 2-for-3 with a runs scored. Rynard also added a double and three RBI. Tiffany Brown was 2-for-4 with a home run. Nicole Nease added a 2-for-5 performance with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. 

Sam Grove threw a complete game for the Gorillas to improve her record to 5-0 on the season. Only two of the five runs she gave up were earned. Sara Scheffert took the loss for Wayne State.

Against Sioux Falls, the Gorillas started slow, scoring three runs in the first three innings, but had two big innings with a five-run fourth and a six-run fifth to win the game 14-2. The Gorillas tallied 16 hits in the game. Sioux Falls had seven hits in the game, but did not score its runs until the seventh inning.

Brenna George added four more hits for the Gorillas with a 4-for-5 performance that included a double, three runs scored and an RBI. She also stole two bases. Kylie Guthier went 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. Devon McCreath came in to pinch run for her and also scored a run.

Tiffany Brown was 2-for-3 with home runs for both her hits. She also had a walk, three runs scored and five RBI. Jordan Bradshaw, Alex Perez and Cheslyn Mitchell each had two hits for the Gorillas. Bradshaw hit a double and added a run and an RBI. Bre McCracken did not have a hit, but did have a walk, two RBI and a run scored.

The schedule for Saturday's action has been altered slightly. The Gorillas will not play Wayne State, but will play one game against Sioux Falls beginning at 2 p.m. Sioux Falls will take on Northwest Missouri prior to the Pitt State game at 12 Noon.
