PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State softball team scored 26 runs in 11 innings over two games to sweep Lincoln, 9-1 and 17-2, in an MIAA doubleheader on Wednesday (March 19) evening.

In the first game, the Gorillas scored nine runs on 12 hits, while Lincoln scored one run on six hits and a Gorilla error.

Sam Grove started and pitched the first two Sills pitched the remaining four innings, allowing only three base runners, to earn the win and even her record at 4-4.

The Gorillas scored two runs in the first, three in the third and four in the sixth. Seven different players had hits in the game. There were three home runs, one each from McKenzie Rynard, Tiffany Brown and Nicole Nease. Nease's home run was a walk off to score the run needed for the eight-run rule win.

Brenna George and Brown each were 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the game. George added a double, while Brown had a home run and four RBI. Rynard was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, a walk, a run scored and two RBI. Nicole Nease was 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run, an RBI and two runs scored. Bailey Letts was only 1-for-2 in her four plate appearances, but was also hit by a pitch and walked. Her one hit was a double. She also scored two runs and earned an RBI.

The second game saw the Gorillas tally 17 runs on 16 hits and two Lincoln errors. Ten different Pitt State players had hits in the game. Lincoln scored two runs on seven hits. Pitt State scored five runs in the first, 10 in the second and two in the fourth. The Blue Tigers scored both their runs in the fourth inning.

Rynard led the Gorillas with a 3-for-3 outing that included two home runs, four runs scored and five RBI. George added three more hits, all in the first two innings. She scored two runs and had an RBI. Brown was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBI and three runs scored. Alex Perez added a 2-for-2 day with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Nicole Nease had only one hit, a home run, but was walked twice and scored three runs and recorded three RBI.

Pitt State will travel to St. Joseph, Mo. for a tournament involving teams from the central region hosted by Missouri Western.
