MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Pittsburg State softball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Northwest Missouri, 9-5 and 8-7, on Friday (March 28) afternoon.

Gorilla senior Tiffany Brown hit a home run in the second game that tied the school record for single season and career home runs. She now has 17 home runs this season and 46 career home runs, tying records set by Mannie DeCastro.

Pitt State had nine hits in each game, while Northwest Missouri had 10 in each game. 

The second game was a thriller and came down to the final inning.

Northwest Missouri was on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the first.

PItt State answered with two runs in the top of the third. Brenna George drew a one-out walk. She advanced to second on a ground out to third. A base hit by Brown brought George home. Brown then came home on a double by Rynard to tie the game at 2-2.

The Bearcats added a run to go ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth.

The top of the fifth saw the Gorillas go ahead 5-3. Bradshaw reached on an error and advanced to second to lead off the inning. A sacrifice bunt by George moved Bradshaw to third. A base hit up the middle by Mitchell scored Bradshaw. Brown added another base hits. A two-out double by Nease plated two more Gorilla runs.

A Northwest Missouri grand slam in the sixth gave the Bearcats a 7-5 lead.

Brown tied the game with her record tying home run in the top of the seventh.

The Bearcats' Stephanie Marks ended the game with a one-out walkoff home run in bottom of the seventh to end the game with an 8-7 Pitt State lost.

In the first game, the Bearcats scored their nine runs in the first two innings, one in the first and eight in the second.

The Gorillas attempted a comeback in the last three inning. McKenzie Rynard got the rally started with a one-out home run in the top of the fourth. It was her eighth of the season. Nicole Nease followed with a double to left field. Alex Perez added the Gorillas' third straight hit. Cheslyn Mitchell reached on a fielder's choice, but a Bearcat error left all runners safe and the bases loaded. Following the second out of the inning, a Jordan Bradshaw base hit scored Nease and Perez to narrow the lead to 9-3.

Kylie Guthier led off the top of the fifth with a home run to right center, her third of the season.

Pitt State scored its final run in the top of the sixth. With one out, Mitchll dropped a base hit in right field. Bre McCracken added a single down the left line. Brenna George added a two-out RBI single to make the final score 9-5.

The Gorillas travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to face Missouri Western at noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday (March 29).
