Softball To Play Important MIAA Contests This Weekend

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State softball team (27-11, 14-2 MIAA) hosts Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western in important MIAA doubleheaders on Friday (April 10) and Saturday (April 11) at the PSU Softball Complex. Friday's doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m., and Saturday's first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Northwest Missouri is 16-18 overall and 9-7 in MIAA play. The team is seventh in the MIAA standings. Missouri Western is 28-14 and 12-6 in the league, good for fifth in the current standings. The Griffons will play MIssouri Southern in Joplin, Mo. on Friday before coming to Pittsburg on Saturday. 

The Bearcats are hitting .282 as a team and have a 3.61 ERA. The Griffons have a .311 batting average and a 2.92 team ERA.

The Gorillas lead the MIAA with a 14-2 conference record and a 27-11 overall record. The Gorillas are hitting .314 as a team, with seven players hitting .300 or better on the season. The team averages 6.42 runs a game.

The Pitt State pitchers have a 2.67 ERA and hold opponents to a .253 batting average. 

Saturday will be Family Day at the Bicknell Sports Complex. There will be inflatables, face painting and sand volleyball, as well as a conccesions special of a hot dog, chips and a drink for $5.
