Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Pitt State Softball team lost its first MIAA game of the season, 5-2, to Central Missouri in the first game of a doubleheader, but rebounded to overcome a five-run deficit in game two to win 7-5 in 10 innings.

The Gorillas got down early in both games, 5-0 after the first inning. In game one, the offense was not able to produce a hit until the sixth inning, and while it was able to put together a late rally, it was not quite enough. In game two, Pitt State used a three run sixth to bring them within one, before a home run by Katy Remy tied the game with two outs in the top of the seventh.

Pitt State got a runner on in each of the eighth and ninth innings, but were not able to bring that runner home. Gorilla pitcher Morgan Myers put down the Jennies in order in the eighth. She gave up back-to-back two-out hits in the ninth, but forced a ground ball to end the inning and send the game to the 10th and the International Tiebreaker.

Remy was placed at second to start the top of the 10th. Nicole Nease was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. She advanced and Remy scored to give the Gorillas the 6-5 lead on a base hit by Kylie Guthier. An error by the Jennies' centerfielder allowed Nease to move to third and she scored on a wild pitch for the 7-5 lead.

It was not time for the Gorillas to take a breath of relief just yet though, as the Jennies also started the bottom of the 10th with a runner on third. The first batter of the inning drew a walk. Both runners advanced on a routine ground out, putting the tying run on second. Myers and the Pitt State defense took care of the next two batters though to end the threat and the game with a 7-5 Pitt State win.

Myers went all 10 innings for Pitt State to improve to 12-4 on the season. She gave up five runs on 10 hits and three errors. Only three of the runs were earned. She walked three batters and struck out two.

Kylie Guthier led the Pitt State offense at the plate in game two with a 3-for-3 game with two runs, an RBI and two walks.

Emmie Robertson took the game one loss. She gave up five runs on four hits and an error, only two runs were earned. Three of the four hits were in the first inning. She struck out seven and walked seven.

Ashton Pratt had the first hit of the game for the Gorillas in the sixth inning. Nicole Nease opened the seventh with a home run. Kylie Guthier followed with a base hit. Lawren McKinney came in to pinch run for her and moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a ground out. She scored on a balk.

The Gorillas' six-game road swing through Missouri continues on Friday as the team travels to Maryville to take on Northwest Missouri at 2 and 4 p.m.
