Hornets Defeat the Gorillas, 3-0 Saturday

Box Score EMPORIA, Kan. — The Emporia State University volleyball team claimed a straight set victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Oct. 7). The Hornets, who recovered from a loss to Central Oklahoma the night before, defeated the Gorillas 25-20, 25-22, 25-13.

ESU (11-9, 3-4 MIAA) got a match-high 14 kills from Yuchen Du who also contributed 16 assists for the Hornets offense. Allie Maloney paced the Hornets defense with nine digs while three players compiled three blocks apiece: Valerie Golder, Karly Patton and Tatum Graves.

Pitt State (3-16, 0-7 MIAA) recorded 29 kills in the match – compared to 39 by ESU – as the Gorillas hit only .102 as a team. Noelle Dooley recorded six kills followed by Mia Bledsoe and Zoey Qi both with five kills apiece. Raven Lawlor contributed six digs for the Gorillas defense with Emily Regier putting up four blocks in the match.

Pitt State will return with two home games next weekend (Oct. 13-14) against Northwest Missouri on Friday and Missouri Western on Saturday at John Lance Arena.
