EMPORIA, Kan. — The Emporia State University baseball team scored three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to help seal a 13-8 victory over Pittsburg State University Sunday (Feb. 26) at Glennen Field.
The Gorillas (6-7, 0-2 MIAA) plated a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull within two runs, 10-8, of the Hornets (9-2, 2-0 MIAA), but ESU countered with three runs in the bottom of the frame thanks to a pair of hits and a Pitt State fielding error.
Colton Pogue led the Pitt State offense with a 6-for-6 hitting day. Pogue scored four runs, hit a pair of home runs and totaled three RBIs in the contest. Ethan Schlesener also went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
The Gorillas and Hornets will wrap up their three-game MIAA series with a 1 p.m. game Monday.
