TOPEKA — The Pittsburg State University baseball team overcame a 2-0 deficit with a five-run fifth inning and the Gorillas held on for a 5-4 victory over Washburn University Sunday (Mar. 19).
The win helped Pitt State (10-16, 4-8 MIAA) take the three-game series against the Ichabods (14-9, 6-6 MIAA).
Dante Richardson (1-1) allowed just one earned run and recorded seven strikeouts in eight innings of work to earn the victory. Cort Lesmeister surrendered two runs on three hits in the ninth but managed to record his fifth save on the season.
Hunter Clanin went 2-for-4 win a run scored and an RBI. Seven Pitt State batters collected a hit in the contest while five Gorillas registered an RBI in the game.
The Gorillas will return home to host MIAA rival Northeastern State University at 6 p.m. Tuesday (Mar. 21).
