EDMOND, Okla. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team slugged five home runs and utilized a nine-run seventh inning to claim a 16-2 run-rule victory over the University of Central Oklahoma Friday afternoon (Mar. 24) in game one of a three-game series.
The Gorillas (11-17, 5-9 MIAA) and Bronchos (16-9-1, 6-8 MIAA) will resume the series with a 1 p.m. (CDT) game Saturday at Simmons Field.
Dallas Reed sparked the Pitt State offense, belting a pair of home runs as part of a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Reed scored three times and drove in four runs.
Hunter Clanin also went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs, while Brett Macary homered and drove in three runs. Andrew Vogelbaugh and T.J. Martin also hit home runs in the contest for the Gorillas.
Cody Whiting (3-4) allowed seven hits and two earned runs in six innings of work. He registered nine strikeouts. Nick Brown worked the seventh inning for Pitt State.
