EDMOND, Okla. — The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team rallied from an 8-3 deficit to score six runs in the final two innings and claim a 9-8 victory over Pittsburg State University Sunday (Mar. 26).
The win helped the Bronchos (17-10-1, 7-9 MIAA) avoid a three-game series sweep by the Gorillas (12-18, 6-10 MIAA).
Pitt State fell behind, 3-1, early in the game as UCO scored twice in the first inning and added a run in the second frame. The Gorillas countered with three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to build their comfy margin.
The Bronchos broke loose for five runs against Pitt State relievers Cooper Gardner, Austin Brownell and Cort Lesmeister (0-1) in the pivotal seventh inning, tying the score at 8-8. UCO pushed across the go-ahead run in the eighth.
Colton Pogue went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs for the Gorillas, while Dallas Reed went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. T.J. Martin also enjoyed a 3-for-3 day at the plate, while Chad Kilgore scored twice and collected two hits.
The Gorillas will return to action Wednesday (Mar. 29) when they travel to Tahlequah, Okla., to face MIAA rival Northeastern State University at 2 p.m.
