Softball Alters Weekend Schedule Again


PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team has altered its weekend schedule for a second time in two days due to weather..

Pitt State will still face Fort Hays State this afternoon (Mar. 31) in a twinbill at Hays, Kan., starting at 2 p.m. (CDT). The Gorillas then will travel to Hastings, Neb., Sunday (Apr. 2) for a Noon doubleheader against Nebraska-Kearney. The UNK games were previously scheduled for Apr. 1 at Kearney, Neb.

The Gorillas enter the weekend action 26-10 overall and 5-3 in MIAA play. FHSU is 9-25 overall (2-6 MIAA) after dropping a doubleheader against Missouri Southern State University Thursday (Mar. 30). UNK is 6-30 (3-7 MIAA) entering a Friday twinbill against MSSU.

Pitt State split an MIAA doubleheader against Southwest Baptist University in its last action Tuesday (Mar. 28).

The Gorillas are batting .290 and scoring 4.8 runs per game on the season while their opponents are hitting .238 and averaging 2.6 runs. Pitt State has a 2.05 team ERA.

Freshman catcher Kala Holder leads the squad with a .345 batting average. She has scored 20 runs, hit six doubles and three home runs and driven in 16 runs. Junior righthander Emmie Robertson has a 17-4 record with a 0.84 ERA and 169 strikeouts in 141.0 innings of work on the mound.
