Last Week of Gorilla Softball Home Games Begins Tuesday

PITTSBURG -- The 37-13 Pittsburg State Softball team will play its final home games this week at the Pitt State Softball Complex. The team will play three doubleheaders, Tuesday at 2 p.m. against Missouri S&T, Friday at 3 p.m. against Northeastern State and Saturday at 2 p.m. against league leader Central Oklahoma. Saturday will be Senior Day and the Gorillas will honor seniors Tiara Ewy and Nicole Nease between games.

The Missouri S&T Miners Come to Pittsburg with an 18-25 record. Last week they went 3-3, sweeping a doubleheader with Drury on April 12 before falling in both games to Missouri St. Louis. On Saturday, the team split a doubleheader with Maryville. The Miners hit .267 as a team, lead by Monica Weiss with a .362 average. The Miner pitchers have a 4.36 average.

The Northeastern State RiverHawks are 23-24 overall and 11-11 in MIAA play. The team sits in ninth place in the MIAA standings heading into the week. The RiverHawks have won three of their last 10 games, most recently being swept 2-0 and 3-0 by Central Oklahoma. The RiverHawks hit .277 as a team with three players hitting over .300. Sierra Crick leads the team with a .370 average and 42 runs scored. Haley Acrey leads the team in RBI with 40. The RiverHawk pitching staff has a 3.72 ERA. Jennifer Wolf has thrown the most innings and has a 10-7 record with a 2.59 ERA.

Central Oklahoma leads the MIAA with a 38-8 overall record and a 18-4 record in conference play. The team's four conference losses were to Northwest Missouri, Missouri Western (two games) and Southwest Baptist. All the losses were in Edmond. The Bronchos will play doubleheaders against Saint Mary's (Texas) and Missouri Southern before coming to Pittsburg. The Bronchos lead the MIAA with a .350 batting average. Morgan Heard leads the team 57 runs scored and 12 home runs. Carrie Abrams is the MIAA leader with a .460 average. Tori Collet leads in RBI with 53. The Bronchos have a 1.75 team ERA. Peyton Walker and Jayden Chestnut have carried the bulk of the load. Walker has a 1.38 ERA and a 19-4 record. Chestnut has a 16-3 record and a 1.78 ERA. 

The Gorillas are second in the MIAA behind the Bronchos with a 37-13 overall record and a 16-6 conference mark. The Gorillas have won five of their last six games. The six MIAA losses were to Lindenwood, Northwest Missouri (two games), Southwest Baptist, Missouri Southern and Emporia State. 

Pitt State hits just under .300 for the season at .297. Five players are hitting over .300. Different players lead in each different hitting category. Holder is the hits leads with 52 and a .344 average. Kaity Kukowski leads in runs scored with 40 and has a .492 on base percentage with 23 walks and 29 hit by pitches. Nicole Nease leads in RBI with 37 and home runs with nine. Lawren McKinney is the doubles leader with 12. 

Emie Robertson carries the bulk of the load for the Pitt State pitching staff. She has an 0.76 ERA and a 26-5 record in 203.2 innings pitched. She has appeared in 45 of the team's 50 games. Bree Cornett adds a 7-5 record and a 2.91 ERA.00000
