Gorillas Split Against Sharks

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. -- The Pittsburg State University softball team finished day two of action with a split against Nova Southeastern University Saturday (Feb. 10). The Sharks defeated the Gorillas, 1-0, in game one, before Pitt State pulled out a 4-2 win in game two.

In the opener, the Sharks (3-7) got a strong performance in the circle from Lexie Storrer (3-5). Storrer shut out the Gorillas (5-5) in seven innings of work. Bree Cornett pitched 6 2/3 innings for Pitt State, allowing five hits and one earned run to take the loss in game one.
 
In game two, Pitt State jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, and added two more runs in the fifth to grab a 4-0 advantage. Nova answered scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Kala Holder went 2-for-4 with a single, home run and two RBIs for the Gorillas, while Lawren McKinney went 2-for-4 with two singles.
 
Brooklynne Simbeck started for the Gorillas pitching four complete innings, only allowing one hit and improved her record to (3-2). Brittany Beaudet came in for relief pitch and completed three innings of work.

Pitt State will finish their weekend in Florida with a doubleheader against Barry University on Sunday (Feb. 11). The first pitch is set for 10 a.m. (CST).
