Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, FLA. — The Pittsburg State University softball team dropped a pair of games in a doubleheader Sunday (Feb. 11) against Barry University. The Gorillas fell, 5-4 in game one and then dropped a 6-5 extra inning decision in game two.
The Gorillas (5-7) took a 4-0 lead early into the top of the first inning against Barry University (3-7), before the Buccaneers answered with two runs in the first, followed by one run in the third and two more in the fifth to take control.

Kristen Van Hoosen belted a three-run home run, followed by Myka Hayward with a solo home run in the first inning for the Gorillas. Bree Cornett (2-4) started for the Gorillas allowing 9 hits on five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings of work.

In game two, Barry jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the first and Pitt State was able to tie it up at 5-5 scoring five runs in the fifth inning. The Buccaneers scored one run in the eighth inning to capture the win.

Kaity Kukowski recorded a three-RBI home run for the Gorillas in the fifth inning to tie the game up.
The Gorillas will return to action next weekend (Feb. 16-18) when they travel to Bentonville, Ark. for the Arkansas-Monticello Classic.Â
