PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State softball team will travel to Emporia, Kan., to take part in the Eight State Classic Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 17-18) at the Trusler Sports Complex.

The tournament moved locations earlier this week when action scheduled for Bentonville, Ark., was canceled due to the threat of inclement weather. To salvage the weekend, Emporia State University officials agreed to host a condensed version of the tournament.

Pitt State's weekend schedule is as follows:

The Gorillas' four opponents have a 19-6 combined record heading into the weekend action.

Maryville is 3-1 on the season, while Southern Arkansas has an unblemished 6-0 mark. Henderson State is 4-3 to date, while Arkansas Tech is 6-2 after eight games played.
The Gorillas are 5-7 on the season. Pitt State opened the season with a 3-3 record at the Southeastern Oklahoma Invitational at Durant, Okla. The Gorillas went 2-4 in three twinbills against NCAA Division II schools at Fort Lauderdale, Fla., last weekend.
Kala Holder leads the team with a .314 batting average and a .686 slugging percentage. She has four home runs and seven RBIs so far. Kaity Kukowski has belted three home runs on the season as well.
Brittany Beaudet leads the pitching staff with a 2.20 ERA in eight appearances. She has thrown 16.3 innings, striking out nine batters while walking only one.
