Gorillas Split With Tritons in Home-Opening Action Sunday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PITTSBURG-- The Pittsburg State University softball team split a pair of games in their home opener Sunday (Feb. 25).

The Gorillas defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 7-6, in game one, before dropping a 7-0 decision to the Tritons in game two.

Pitt State capitalized on a pair of three-run home runs by Lawren McKinney and Shelby Miller in the opener to hold off UMSL. The Gorillas wrapped out 11 hits in all in the contest.
Brittany Beaudet (1-0) earned the win in relief. Alicia Lowery went 3-for-3 and scored three runs.

In game two, the Tritons struck for a run in the first, two in the second and three in the third inning to break the contest open early.
Carly Kingery and Andee Tiffee (3-2) combined to post a two-hit shutout against the Gorillas (6-12).

Pitt State will return to action next Saturday and Sunday (Mar 3-4) when the Gorillas host Maryville University in a pair of Noon doubleheaders at the PSU Softball Complex.
