PITTSBURG — For the second time in a month, the Pittsburg State University softball team will travel to Emporia, Kan., to take part in a freshly-created tournament after inclement weather has scratched original travel plans.
Â
A three-day tournament scheduled in St. Joseph, Mo., this weekend was canceled earlier this week due to the imminent threat of weekend rain showers. Now Emporia State University will serve as the host for three days of competition.
Â
The Gorillas will play five games at Emporia against NCAA Division II Central Region foes. On Friday, Pitt State will battle Minnesota State at 10 a.m. and Augustana (S.D.) at Noon. The Gorillas will take on Minot State at 10 a.m. and Winona State at Noon Saturday, and Pitt State will wrap up the weekend action with a 10 a.m. game Sunday against Minnesota Duluth.
Â
The Gorillas enter the tournament action with a 9-17 overall record.
Â
Kala Holder leads the team with a .351 batting average and a .757 slugging percentage. She has nine home runs and 16 RBIs on the year. Lawren McKinney has belted seven home runs on the season as well.
Brooklynne Simbeck leads the pitching staff with a 5-9 record. She has thrown 68.0 innings, striking out 25 batters.
