PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team will host Maryville University in a pair of doubleheaders at the PSU Softball Complex Saturday and Sunday (Mar. 3-4). The Gorillas and Saints will face off at Noon (CST) each day.

The Gorillas are 6-12 overall on the young season. Pitt State split a pair of against the University of Missouri-St. Louis last weekend in their home-opening series.

Maryville will bring an 8-2 record into the weekend series. The Saints swept a twinbill against UMSL in their most recent action Tuesday (Feb. 27).

Maryville and Pitt State met on Feb. 17 at the Emporia State Six-State Classic. The Saints pulled out a 5-4 win over the Gorillas that day.

As a team, Pitt State is batting .243 and scoring 3.3 runs per game on the season. The Gorillas have a 4.05 team ERA.
Sophomore Kala Holder leads the squad with a .327 batting average. Holder has collected 16 hits, including three doubles and a team-leading six home runs. She has a .755 slugging percentage.

Kaity Kukowski also is batting .278 with a team-best 10 runs scored, five home runs and nine RBIs.

Bree Cornett has made 11 starts on the season, posting a 2-7 record with a 4.59 ERA in 58 innings of work. Brooklynne Simbeck has started the remaining seven games with a 3-5 record and a 4.49 ERA.

MU is batting .323 as a team and scoring 7.6 runs per game. The Saints have a 2.79 team ERA.
