Box Score 2 PITTSBURG --Â The Pittsburg State University softball team finished the weekend with a split pair of games against Maryville University Sunday (Mar. 4). The Saints defeated the Gorillas, 11-1 (6 innings), in game one, before Pitt State captured a 7-6 win in game two.
Maryville (10-4) scored a run in the first, three runs in the fourth inning, two runs in the fifth inning and five more in the sixth to help build a huge lead against the Gorillas (8-14). Pitt State was held to just three runs compared to Maryville's eleven hits. Â
In game two, the Saints jumped ahead early to hold the lead into the top of the seventh inning. Lawren McKinney delivered a two run HR to capture the win for the Gorillas in the seventh inning.
Lawren McKinney went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs, while Emily Clark went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Pitt State will open up MIAA conference play next weekend with a doubleheader against Emporia State University on Friday (Mar. 9) followed by a doubleheader against Washburn University on Saturday (Mar. 10).
