Gorillas Salvage Split Against Saints

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University softball team finished the weekend with a split pair of games against Maryville University Sunday (Mar. 4). The Saints defeated the Gorillas, 11-1 (6 innings), in game one, before Pitt State captured a 7-6 win in game two.

Maryville (10-4) scored a run in the first, three runs in the fourth inning, two runs in the fifth inning and five more in the sixth to help build a huge lead against the Gorillas (8-14). Pitt State was held to just three runs compared to Maryville's eleven hits.  

In game two, the Saints jumped ahead early to hold the lead into the top of the seventh inning. Lawren McKinney delivered a two run HR to capture the win for the Gorillas in the seventh inning.

Lawren McKinney went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs, while Emily Clark went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
 
Pitt State will open up MIAA conference play next weekend with a doubleheader against Emporia State University on Friday (Mar. 9) followed by a doubleheader against Washburn University on Saturday (Mar. 10).
