Gorillas Close Out Regular Season With Weekend Road Action

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team will close out its regular season schedule with a pair of MIAA road doubleheaders Friday and Saturday (Apr. 20-21).
 
The Gorillas will travel to Tahlequah, Okla. to face MIAA rival Northeastern State University in a Friday twinbill at 2 p.m. Pitt State will then venture to Edmond, Okla. the next day to take on the University of Central Oklahoma in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Pitt State is 21-30 overall and 11-11 in MIAA in MIAA play. The Gorillas are currently tied for seventh in the conference standings (with Lindenwood University) after sweeping a doubleheader against Lincoln University Tuesday (Apr. 18). The two eight teams in the conference standings at the end of the regular season advance to the 2018 MIAA Post-Season Tournament.
 
Northeastern State is 26-23 overall and 12-10 in the MIAA heading into Friday's match-up, while Central Oklahoma is 26-19 overall and 14-8 in the MIAA heading into Friday home action against Missouri Southern State University.
 
Pitt State is hitting .268 as a team and scoring 4.5 runs per game. Sophomore Kala Holder leads the team with a .355 batting average. Holder has scored a team-leading 38 runs and belted a team-leading 15 home runs. Junior Kristen Van Hoosen is hitting .284 with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs.
 
Pitt State pitchers have a 4.91 ERA as a group. Senior Bree Cornett is 9-15 with a 4.78 ERA in 42 appearances (25 starts), while senior Brooklynne Simbeck is 11-15 with a 5.53 ERA in 38 appearances (26 starts).
