PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team will make its home debut Thursday (Feb. 14) by hosting Rogers State University in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. (CST) at the PSU Softball Complex.
The Gorillas (3-3) originally were scheduled to play six games at Bentonville, Ark., beginning Friday (Feb. 15) and running through Sunday (Feb. 17) but the Alvy Early Memorial Classic was canceled Tuesday (Feb. 12) due to the poor weekend weather forecast in Bentonville.
Pitt State has won consecutive games after a 1-3 start to the season. Rogers State is off to a 6-3 start to its season. The Hillcats had a five-game winning streak snapped in an 8-3 decision to Cameron University Monday (Feb. 12).
Pitt State is hitting .288 as a team and scoring 4.3 runs per game. Junior Kaity Kukowski leads the team with a .500 batting average. Dru Collins has scored a team-leading five runs, hit a team-best four doubles and driven in seven runs. Junior Kala Holder also is hitting .353 with six hits and three RBIs.

Pitt State pitchers have a 2.17 ERA as a group. Junior Halle Brin is 2-1 with a 1.54 ERA in five appearances (three starts), while freshman Shelby Smith is 1-2 with a 2.93 ERA in three appearances.
Collins was named the MIAA Hitter of the Week following the opening weekend of action, while Brin garnered MIAA Pitcher of the Week recognition.
