PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team will play a pair of doubleheaders against MIAA conference opponents this weekend. The Gorillas will take on Emporia State University Saturday (Mar. 30) at Emporia, Kan., and Washburn University Sunday (Mar. 31) at Topeka.
First pitch for Pitt State's twinbill against Emporia State is set for 3 p.m. (CDT) Saturday, while Sunday's action against WU will get under way at 1 p.m.
The Gorillas are 16-15 overall and 4-2 in MIAA play on the season. Pitt State is scoring 5.5 runs per game and batting .274 as a team. Pitt State pitchers have a 4.10 team ERA.
Junior catcher Kala Holder leads the squad with a .393 batting average. She has five home runs – ranking fifth in the MIAA – and 19 RBIs to date. Junior second baseman Kaity Kukowski is hitting .347 with seven doubles and 24 RBIs. Junior righthander Halle Brin has a 9-6 record with three saves and a 2.87 ERA in 24 appearances on the mound.
Emporia State will bring an 8-17 overall mark and 2-4 MIAA record into Saturday's twinbill against Pitt State. WU is 14-16 overall and 5-1 in the MIAA to date.
