Gorillas to Host Bearcats, Griffons in MIAA Weekend Action

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team will host a pair of doubleheaders against MIAA opponents this weekend. The Gorillas will take on Northwest Missouri State University Friday (Apr. 12) and Missouri Western State University Saturday (Apr. 13) at the Gene Bicknell Complex.

First pitch for Pitt State's twinbill against NWMSU is set for 2 p.m. (CDT) Friday, while Saturday's action against MWSU will get under way at Noon. In between games Saturday, the Pitt State coaching staff and underclassmen will honor its three outgoing seniors – Ali Gutc, Chloe Holman and Alicia Lowrey.

The Gorillas are 19-22 overall and 7-9 in MIAA play on the season. Pitt State is scoring 5.0 runs per game and batting .276 as a team. Pitt State pitchers have a 4.03 team ERA.

Junior catcher Kala Holder leads the squad with a .404 batting average. She has six home runs – ranking seventh in the MIAA – and 26 RBIs to date. Junior second baseman Kaity Kukowski is hitting .326 with 10 doubles and 31 RBIs. Junior righthander Halle Brin has a 10-11 record with three saves and a 2.91 ERA in 32 appearances on the mound.

NWMSU will bring a 9-18 overall mark and 4-10 MIAA record into Friday's twinbill against Pitt State. MWSU is 26-14 overall and 13-5 in the MIAA to date.
