Gorillas Close Out Regular Season With Weekend Home Action

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team will close out its regular season schedule with a pair of doubleheaders against MIAA opponents this weekend. The Gorillas will take on Northeastern State University Friday (Apr. 26) and the University of Central Oklahoma Saturday (Apr. 27) at the Gene Bicknell Complex.

First pitch for Pitt State's twinbill against NSU is set for 2 p.m. (CDT) Friday, while Saturday's action against UCO will get under way at Noon. 

The Gorillas are 23-24 overall and 11-11 in MIAA play. Pitt State sits in a three-way tie for seventh place in the MIAA standings with Lindenwood and Nebraska-Kearney. The top eight teams in the conference standings at the end of the regular season advance to the 2019 MIAA Postseason Tournament.

The Gorillas enter the weekend action scoring 5.2 runs per game and batting .283 as a team. Pitt State pitchers have a 4.08 team ERA.

Junior catcher Kala Holder leads the squad with a .408 batting average. She has nine home runs – ranking fifth in the MIAA – and 34 RBIs to date. Junior second baseman Kaity Kukowski is hitting .331 with 11 doubles and 34 RBIs. Junior righthander Halle Brin has a 13-12 record with three saves and a 3.02 ERA in 37 appearances on the mound.

NSU will bring a 24-23 overall mark and 12-10 MIAA record into Friday's twinbill against Pitt State. UCO is 38-4 overall, 20-2 in the MIAA and alone atop the conference standings.
