PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball qualified for the eight-team MIAA Postseason Tournament as the No. 7 seed and the Gorillas will face No. 2 seed Missouri Western State University in opening-round action Wednesday (May 1) at 6:30 p.m. (CDT) at the Bronchos Softball Stadium at Edmond, Okla.

The Gorillas are making their 23rd appearance in the MIAA Postseason Tournament. Pitt State has compiled a 32-42 (.432) record with runner-up finishes in 1992, 1994, 1995 and 2015.
Pitt State enters the postseason batting .280 as a team and scoring 4.9 runs per game. Pitt State pitchers have a 3.88 team ERA.
Junior catcher Kala Holder leads the squad with a .385 batting average. She has 10 home runs – ranking third in the MIAA – and 37 RBIs to date. Junior second baseman Kaity Kukowski is hitting .327 with 11 doubles and 37 RBIs. Junior righthander Halle Brin has a 16-13 record with three saves and a 2.85 ERA in 41 appearances on the mound.
MWSU enters the tournament with a 34-14 overall record and 21-5 MIAA mark. Missouri Western swept a doubleheader against Pitt State during the regular season on Apr. 13 in Pittsburg. The Griffons downed the Gorillas, 13-3 and 7-2 in the twinbill.
The winner of the PSU-MWSU match-up will advance to a 6:30 p.m. game Thursday evening against the winner between No. 3 seed Washburn University (26-24, 17-9 MIAA) and No. 6 seed Emporia State University (25-26, 14-12). The PSU-MWSU loser will meet the WU-ESU loser in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m. Thursday as well.
