Gorillas fall to Ichabods in Doubleheader

PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University softball team dropped two games against Washburn University Sunday (Mar. 21). Game one was a final score of 10-1. Game two finished 10-2.

A slow start for the Gorillas in game one allowed Washburn to take the lead early after a two run shot in the second. The Ichabods momentum continued into the next innings to take a 5-0 lead. The Gorillas first hit came in the fourth by designated player Taylor Lambert. 

The Gorillas continued to struggle at the plate notching only three more hits. Freshman Kori Stonestreet smacked a double in the sixth and scored the Gorillas only run of the game.

Senior Kaylee Burns went 4 and 1/3 allowing five runs and was credited with the loss.

Game two started the same with the Gorillas first hit coming in the second inning by Kami Zimmerman. The Gorillas walked in two runs in the second for their only runs of the game. Washburn scored five runs in the top of the second to give the Ichabods a 6-2 lead heading into three. The Ichabods would add four more runs in the third to give the game its final score of 10-2.

Senior Madison Morris went two and 1/3 innings and was credited with the loss.

The Gorillas are back for a non-conference matchup with Southeastern Oklahoma on Tuesday (Mar. 23). First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
