Lions take two from Gorillas

Joplin Mo. – The Pittsburg State University softball team dropped a pair of games to the Lady Lions of Missouri Southern Saturday (Mar. 27), 1-0, 6-1.

In game one of the doubleheader the Lady Lions held the Gorillas to four hits in the game. An early double by Kylee Bohle gave the Gorillas its first base runner of the day but Bohle was stranded at third after a few quick outs. The Gorillas and Lady Lions went into the 6th still scoreless until Missouri Southern plated one in the 6th to take the lead and give the game its final score of 1-0.

Senior Kaylee Burns went a full seven innings giving up four hits and one earned runs in the contest. Burns was credited with the loss moving her season record to 4-6.

The Gorillas continued to struggle in game two only putting up five hits and one run. Center fielder Keelah Griffith scored Lamphier in the fourth after a Lady Lions error to score the Gorillas only run, and make the game 2-1. 

Junior Taylor Compton went three innings and was credited with the loss, moving her season record to 2-3.

The Gorillas will be back for its last non conference games fo the season with Southwest Baptist on Wednesday Mar 31. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. (CDT) with game two starting after.
