PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University softball team will continue its MIAA season this weekend for doubleheaders with both Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney. The Gorillas will travel to Hays Friday (Apr. 2) and travel down the road to Kearney Saturday (Apr. 3). First pitch for Friday is set for 2 p.m. and Noon for Saturdays matchup.
The Gorillas come into the matchups after two resounding wins over former MIAA opponent Southwest Baptist on Tuesday (Mar. 31). The Gorillas came into the doubleheader on a six game skid but showed no sign of it on Tuesday. The Gorillas knocked off the Bearcats, 2-1 and 11-2.
At the plate this season Pitt State is lead by outfielder Kylee Bohle who has put up a .350 batting average. Bohle has put up 13 RBIs, six doubles, two triples and two long balls this season. Bohle is followed closely by designated player Taylor Lambert who has notched a .313 batting average on the season.
In the circle the Gorillas are lead by senior Kaylee Burns who has a 3.50 ERA this season. Burns has amassed a 4-6 record including four complete games. The former MIAA Pitcher of the Week has allowed 80 hits and 45 earned runs in 68 innings pitched. Burns is followed by junior Taylor Compton who has a 4.76 ERA on the season.
The Tigers of Fort Hays enter Friday's action with a 10-12 record with a 4-2 record in the MIAA. The Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney are currently 10-14 and 1-7 in the MIAA. The Lopers will entertain Missouri Southern in a doubleheader Friday before the Gorillas come to town on Saturday.
