PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University softball team will travel to Missouri to take on a pair of MIAA rivals this weekend. The Gorillas will battle Central Missouri in a doubleheader Saturday (Apr. 17) at Warrensburg, Mo., at 1 p.m., before sliding down the road to face Lincoln in a twinbill Sunday (Apr. 18) at Jefferson City, Mo., at Noon. The Pitt State - LU games were moved from Friday to Sunday on Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 14) due to the weekend weather forecast.
The Gorillas enter the weekend action with a 13-21 overall record and 7-9 mark in MIAA play. The Jennies are 23-9 overall and 12-4 in MIAA, while the Blue Tigers head into the weekend at 6-25-1 overall (3-15 MIAA).
Pitt State is bating .306 as a team on the season, averaging four runs per game. The Gorillas are led by first baseman Kami Zimmerman who has put up a .313 average to date. Centerfielder Keelah Griffith leads the team in long balls with five. After a two grand slam outing against Northeastern State last Saturday, Griffith leads the Gorillas with 24 RBIs.
In the circle, the Gorillas are led by senior Kaylee Burns who has notched a 4.67 ERA on the season. Burns has pitched 93.3 innings including six complete games. She has recorded a 7-8 record on the season.
