Gorillas fall to Jennies in MIAA Action

Warrensburg, Mo. – The Pittsburg State University softball team dropped a pair of games to Central Missouri, 3-2, 6-3.

In the first of two games of the day the Jennies narrowly escaped the Gorillas with a 3-2 win. The Jennies got start with an early lead scoring three in the first for its only runs of the game. The Gorillas started its scoring in the fourth with a solo home run by right fielder Lauren Florez. In the fifth short stop Kori Stonestreet scored the Gorillas final run with a solo shot to left center.

Kaylee Burns was credited with the loss. Burns went all six innings allowing six hits and three earned runs. Burns moved her record to 7-9.

In game two the scoring started early with the Gorillas scoring two in the top of the first. Taylor Lambert started the scoring with a leadoff home run. First baseman Kami Zimmerman notched an RBI single to put the Gorillas up 2-0. The Jennies answered back quickly in the bottom of the first scoring four runs to take the lead.

Bohle would drive in the Gorillas final run of the day with an RBI single. The jennies would score two insurance runs in the sixth to give the game its final score of 6-3.

Taylor Compton was credited with the loss for the Gorillas. Compton went five innings allowing 10 hits and five earned runs.

The Gorillas ends its weekend road trip to Missouri with Lincoln Sunday (Apr. 17). First pitch is set for 1 p.m. with game two to follow.
