Gorillas Wrap Up Regular Season Against Griffons, Bearcats

PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University softball team will wrap of the regular season with a pair of MIAA doubleheaders against Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri Friday (Apr. 30) and Saturday (May 1). The Gorillas and Griffons will battle at 2 p.m. (CDT) Friday, while Saturday's action against the Bearcats starts at Noon.

Saturday's twinbill also will serve as Senior Day as Pitt State honors outgoing seniors Kaylee Burns and Kaity Kukowski in-between games.

The Gorillas enter the weekend with a 15-25 record and a 9-13 record in the MIAA. Pitt State currently sits in a tie for 10th place in the conference standings. The top eight teams qualify for the 2021 MIAA Postseason Tournament next week.

Western is 25-15 overall, 14-8 in the MIAA and tied for fifth place in the conference standings. Northwest is 16-18 overall (10-12 MIAA) and alone in eighth place in the MIAA standings heading into a Friday doubleheader against Missouri Southern.
 
As a team, the Gorillas are batting .268 on the season and scoring 4.2 runs per game. Junior first baseman Kami Zimmerman leads the squad with a .336 average at the plate. She has four doubles, two home runs and 18 RBIs to her credit. Sophomore outfielder Keelah Griffith has belted a team-leading five home runs and driven in 24 runs.

Burns leads Pitt State inside the pitching circle. She has an 8-10 record with a team-low 3.22 ERA, registering 66 strikeouts in 113 innings pitched.
