PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University softball team will play host to MIAA rivals Rogers State, Friday (Apr. 9), before rounding out the week with Northeastern State Saturday (Apr. 10). The Gorillas will take on the Hillcats at 2 p.m. at the PSU Softball Complex on Friday. First pitch with the RiverHawks is set for noon.
The Gorillas head into the matchups with a 12-18 record and 6-6 record in the MIAA. Pitt State is riding a two game winning streak after sweeping its series with the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney Saturday (Apr. 3).
At the plate the Gorillas are lead by designated player Taylor Lambert who has boasted a .313 batting average this season. Lambert has smacked three doubles this season and has three RBIs. Left fielder Paxtyn Hayes has launched the most long balls this season with four.
In the circle the Gorillas are lead by senior Kaylee Burns. Burns has amassed a 3.50 era on the season on her way to a 4-6 record. The Gorillas ace has notched 38 strikeouts and allowed 80 hits in 68 innings of work. Burns is followed by junior Taylor Compton. Compton has put up a 4.76 era in 39 and 2/3 innings of work.
Rogers State travels to Pittsburg ranked 21
st in the country. The Hillcats are 18-10 on the season and 7-5 in the MIAA. The Hillcats last outing it split a series with UCM.
Northeastern State enters Pittsburg with a 19-11 record and 7-5 in the MIAA. Before entering Pittsburg the RiverHawks will head to Joplin to take on Missouri Southern in a doubleheader.
