Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – The Pittsburg State University volleyball team started its 2021 campaign splitting a pair of matches to Quincy and Nova Southeastern at the Shark Invitational, 3-0 and 3-1.

The Gorillas started out with a decisive win over Quincy University with a 3-0 victory to open the season.

In game two of the day the Gorillas took on the host school Nova Southeastern. The Gorillas were down early after dropping the first two sets to the Sharks. But the Gorillas were able to take set three, 25-21. The Sharks would bounce back in set four and take the match 3-1.

Pitt State was led by sophomore outside hitter Hannah Martin who tallied 10 kills and seven digs against the Sharks. Senior middle hitter Hope White also tallied 10 kills and put up three blocks in the match.

The Gorillas will round out its action in the Sunshine State tomorrow (Sept. 4) when they take on Lynn University at 11 a.m. (CDT) and Stonehill College at 2:00 p.m. (CDT).
