PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team will host a pair of split doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 19-20) at the PSU Softball Complex.

The Gorillas will face Winona State University at 11 a.m. and Drury University at 3 p.m. Saturday with the Warriors and the Panthers facing one another in-between. On Sunday, Pitt State will take on Winona at 10 a.m. and Drury at 2 p.m. with those two squads playing a middle game at Noon.

Pitt State will bring a 5-1 record into the weekend action. The Gorillas posted a 3-1 record at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic at Bentonville, Ark., last weekend. Pitt State opened the 2022 campaign by sweeping a pair of home games against Southwest Baptist University on Feb. 9.

Winona State is 2-0 on the young season after posting a 37-12 mark in 2021. Drury is currently 3-3 and the Panthers posted a 26-16 record last spring.

The Pitt State offensive is hitting at a torrid pace with a .411 team batting average through six games played. The Gorillas have belted 12 home runs and scored 69 runs (11.5 pg). Pitt State has been aggressive on the base paths as well with 14 stolen bases to date. The Gorillas pitchers currently sport a 4.31 ERA.

Junior utility player Taylor Lambert leads the squad with a .591 batting average. She has a team-leading 13 hits and has scored seven runs. Junior catcher Madison Szymanski is hitting .588 with eight runs scored and six RBIs, while redshirt junior outfielder Keelah Griffith is hitting .500 with a home run and five RBIs. Sophomore utility player Paxtyn Hayes is batting .353 with three doubles, two HRs and 10 RBIs. Redshirt sophomore outfielder Kylee Bohle has a team-best three HRs as well as eight RBIs.

Senior pitcher Abby Atkin is 3-0 with a 4.81 ERA on the season, while senior Taylor Compton is 1-0 with a 2.71 ERA to date.
