Box Score 2 Topeka, Kan. – The Pittsburg State University softball team split a pair of games at the Washburn Invitational Sunday (Feb. 27).
The Gorillas opened day two of the Washburn Invitational against St. Cloud State University. After falling behind early the Gorillas pulled within two 8-6 after three innings of play. Heading into the fifth inning the Gorillas would trail St. Cloud 9-6. The Huskies would score six runs in the top of the fifth to take a 15-6 run rule victory.
Pitt State would turn right around to play Wayne State College for the second time in 2022. The Gorillas would score the first two runs of the game in the top of the third thanks to a hit by Keelah Griffith and a Wildcat wild pitch.
Pitt State would hold onto the 2-0 lead until the top of the seventh. The Gorillas would add on four more runs off the bats of Paxtyn Hayes, Madison Szymanski and Sophia Driver to give the game a final score of 6-0.
The Gorillas will return to action Monday (Feb. 28) to take on Minnesota Crookston in the final day of the Washburn Invitational.
