Gorillas Take Advantage of PSU Tune-Up Meet Saturday


PITTSBURG -- Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field athletes took full advantage of the PSU Tune-Up Meet Saturday (Apr. 23) at Prentice Gudgen Track.

Louis Rollins punctuated the day's action with a record-breaking run in the men's 110 meter hurdles. Rollins bested his own Pitt State record and smashed the stadium record as well in clocking a 13.31 second time. TJ Caldwell finished second in the race in 13.72 seconds - the second-fastest time in school history.

In other men's action, Konner Swenson won the shot put (57-5, PQ) and discus throw (173-11, PQ) competitions, while Caleb Calvin (208-6) and Bo Robison (193-6) finished first and second, respectively, in the javelin throw. LJ Kiner eclipsed 53 feet in the triple jump for the second time in as many weeks, winning the discipline with a mark of 53-2.75 (PQ). Christian Carter also won hte long jump with a best mark of 23-9.5.

Braylen Brewer turned in a fast time of 10.40 seconds in the prelims of the 100 meters - the sixth fastest time in school history. He also won the 400 meters in 47.30 (PQ), while Nizar Alarahshun finished second in 47.92. Matt Wilson finished second in the 800 meters in 1:56.98, while the 4x1 relay of Rollins, Kiner, Sam Tudor and Brewer won their race in 40.75 (PQ).

In the women's action, Christine Williams clocked a fast time of 11.86 in the prelims of the 100 meters and she won the 200 meters in 23.80. Sky Hagan (14.05) and Madelyn Marquez (14.16) turned in the fifth and seventh fastest times in school history in the 100 meter hurdles, while Matt Price won the 400 meters (56.25) and Madison Burt claimed victory in the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.00, PQ).

Camryn Williams posted a personal best throw of 45-5 in winning the shot put, while Auna Childress secured a PR mark of 40-8.25 in winning the triple jump. Allary Liberatore and Erica Schamel finished first and second in the high jump with each athlete clearing 5-5.75, while Isabelle Peters placed second in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-1 (PQ). Mattie Flanagan placed second in the long jump(18-6) and Jamiya Morgan finished second in the 100 meters (12.12). Madison Reese (135-7) and Lauren Redwine (129-1) claimed the top two spots in the javelin throw.
