EMPORIA, Kan. – The Pittsburg State University women's outdoor track & field team almost led the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships from start to finish, but West Texas A&M University ran down the Gorillas in the 21^st and final event.

The Gorillas, seeking a season sweep of indoor and outdoor national crowns, entered the 4x400m relay with a 4.2-point lead over WTAMU, but the Buffs relay squad raced to an individual event title and outscored the Gorillas relay team by five points.

WTAMU finished the three-day meet with 64 points to edge Pitt State by eight-tenths of a point (63.2).

The Gorillas enters Saturday's action with a 17-point lead in the team standings. Pitt State recorded six All-America performances and scored 24.2 points in the final day's action.

Graduate Zyra Shivers and sophomore Kayvon Nubine combined for 11 points in the 100-meter hurdles. Shivers posted a national runner-up performance with a personal best time of 13.25 seconds. Nubine finished sixth in 13.53.

Junior Jasmine Williamson also enjoyed a personal best performance in the high jump, placing third overall with a clearance of 5 feet, 8.75 inches. Sophomore Bethany Umbarger tied for eighth place, with four other competitors, with a best mark of 5-5.75 in the discipline.

The 4x400m relay of Nikole Cozort, Isabel Abdouch, Kinleigh Hall and Mikah Edwards placed fourth overall in 3:35.86, while the 4x100m relay of Abdouch, Kiara Brown, Hall and Edwards finished seventh in 45.78.

Freshmen Alycia Cosens (144-10), Madi Olds (143-6) and Claire Vanderweide (136-9) placed 15^th, 18^th and 20^th in the javelin Saturday, while sophomore Lily Brown placed 15^th in the high jump (5-3.75).

The Gorillas, under fifth-year head coach Kyle Rutledge, associate head coach/meet director Brian Mantooth, assistant coaches Ben Barrows, Jesse Miller and Jason Crow and graduate assistants Chandler Barnett, Zach Chandler and Dalton Gleeson, recorded the program's fifth straight top 10 outdoor national finish as well as Pitt State's sixth all-time top five national outdoor showing.
