EMPORIA, Kan. — The Pittsburg State University men's and women's track & field team both claimed the 2022 MIAA Outdoor Championship by convincing margins Sunday (May 8) at Francis G. Welch Stadium.

The Pitt State men claimed their seventh MIAA Outdoor Championship in the last 11 seasons and the program's14th all-time MIAA outdoor crown by compiling 169 points in 21 events. Missouri Southern finished as a distant MIAA runner-up with 135 points.

The Pitt State women secured their 13
th overall MIAA Outdoor Championship and their sixth outdoor crown in the last eight years. The Gorillas finished the meet with 145 points to easily defeat second place Central Missouri (117.5 points) and the rest of the field.

The Pitt State men made an early statement on the track Sunday to charge back from a 30-point deficit in the points standings. The Gorillas 4x1 relay of Louis Rollins, LJ Kiner, Tevin Wright-Rose and Braylen Brewer streaked to victory in a school record setting time of 39.97 seconds.
Connar Southard (3:46.82) and Mason Strader (3:48.78) followed by finishing first and third in the 1,500 meters and Rollins made it three MIAA crowns in a row by winning the 110m hurdles in 13.50 seconds. T.J. Caldwell followed closely behind for an MIAA runner-up finish in the discipline (13.64).
Nizar Alarahshun (47.57) and Sam Tudor (47.87) added third and fourth place finish in the 400 meters as the Gorillas headed to the top of the team standings.
Konner Swenson added an MIAA title in the shot put (58-2.5) and Kiner claimed the crown in the triple jump (50-2.5), while the Gorillas got runner-up finishes by Caleb Calvin in the javelin (219-7), Southard in the 800m (1:52.47) and Bryce Grahn in the 5,000m (14:47.31).
The Pitt State women rode their momentum from Saturday's action to the team title. The 4x1 of Sky Hagan, Christine Williams, Jamiya Morgan and Blakelee Winn claimed an MIAA title with a fast time of 45.69 seconds and Williams added an MIAA crown in the 200m (23.33), setting a PR and just missing the school record by .01.
The Gorillas also got MIAA runner-up performances by Auna Childress in the triple jump (40-9.5), Erica Schamel in the high jump (5-7) and Camryn Williams in the shot put (45-6.5). Madison Burt also contributed a third-place finish in the 400m hurdles (1:00.00).
