Pitt State Set to Host 2023 MIAA Indoor Championships

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's and women's indoor track & field teams will travel host the 2023 MIAA Indoor Championships Feb. 24-26 at the Robert W. Plaster Center/Harvey Dean Track.
 
Single day tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for students/children (3-18). Three-day all session passes are available for $15.
 
Fans can watch the 2023 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships live on the MIAA Digital Network. For the first time in championships history, this year's broadcast will include specific event cameras to help provide enhanced coverage of the meet. Fans can purchase an individual camera for $10 or select a $15 weekend plan and gain access to all 12 web streams that will take place throughout the three-day meet.
 
The 2023 MIAA Indoor Championships starts Friday (Feb. 23) at 2 p.m. (CST) with action in the women's pentathlon. The men's heptathlon competition begins at 2:30 p.m. The final event in the pentathlon – the 800 meters – is scheduled for 6:50 p.m. (CLICK HERE for a full schedule of events)
 
On Saturday, the men's heptathlon resumes in the morning with the full meet starting at 2 p.m. Championship Sunday gets under way at Noon with team champions crowned at approximately 5 p.m.
 
The Pitt State women enter the 2023 MIAA Indoor Championships as the defending conference indoor champions. The Gorillas have claimed five of the last six conference indoor crowns.
 
Pitt State, which posted a 21.5-point victory over second place Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, Mo., in 2021 (119.5 to 98), is ranked No. 5 in the most recent USTFCCCA NCAA Division II National Rating Index (TFRI). NWMSU is ranked No. 10 in the national index, while the University of Central Missouri (11th) and Lincoln University (15th) also are ranked in the top 15 nationally.
 
The Pitt State men, the two-time defending MIAA Indoor Champions, have won six of the last nine conference indoor titles. The Gorillas breezed to a 75.5-point victory (173 to 97.5) over second place University of Nebraska-Kearney in 2022. Pitt State is the No. 1 ranked squad in NCAA Division II in the TFRI this season. Missouri Southern State University (6th), UCM (7th) and Fort Hays State University (10th) also are ranked in the top 10 nationally, while UNK (22nd) and LU (25th) also are included in the top 25.
 
This will be 82nd all-time MIAA Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships dating back to 1932. The University of Central Missouri holds the lead for MIAA indoor titles with 21. UCM and Pitt State have combined to win 26 of the past 30 MIAA indoor titles dating back to 1993.
 
This will mark the 42nd all-time MIAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships. Pitt State and UCM have each claimed a conference-leading eight MIAA indoor titles since the meet's inception in 1982.
 
The meet will serve as the final regular season action for the 2023 indoor season.  Qualifiers for the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships – scheduled for Mar. 10-11 at Virginia Beach, Va. – will be announced next week.
