Big Day at the 15th Annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic

PITTSBURG — The men's 4x100 meter relay shattered the school record as well as the stadium record Saturday (Apr. 8) to highlight action by Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field athletes at the 15th Annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic Saturday (Apr. 8).

The quartet of Tevin Wright-Rose, Dre'shaun Sanders, Makai Blades and Xavier Carmichael were clocked in a lightning fast time of 39.76 seconds.

Two other men -- Caleb Calvin in the javelin (228-0) and L.J. Kiner in the long jump (24-5.75) -- posted individual events victories, while Taniya Looney sprinted to victory in the women's 200 meters in 23.83 and Allary Liberatore won the women's high jump (5-6.5).

In other women's action, Erica Schamel (5-6.25) and Rachel Wilson (5-4.25) finished second and third, respectively, in the high jump; Makayla Watson placed second in the long jump (18-6.5), Camryn Williams finished second in the shot put (43-11.25) and third in the discus (133-2); Nakiya Marshall placed second in the 100m hurdles (14.61); and Kinleigh Hall finished second in the 400 meters (55.79).

Rylee Garrett (141-2), Madison Reese (140-5) and Shelby Sogaard (139-1) placed third, fourth and fifth in the javelin; Erin Hammeke placed third in the 3,000m steeplechase (11:48.45) and Kaci Singer finished third in the 5,000 meters (19:00.96).

In men's action, Diego Contreras placed second in the 1,500m (3:53.12); Britton Gage finished third in the pole vault (15-11.75); Hunter Jones placed third in the 110m hurdles (15.07); Wright-Rose finished third in the 100m (10.55); and Sanders finished third in the 200m (21.33).

Cole Sample added a fourth-place finish in the shot put (55-11.75); Konner Swenson placed fourth in the hammer throw (201-7); Braden Zaner placed fourth in the 1,500m (3:54.92); and E'lan Moore finished fifth in the discus (162-10).
