PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court for a pair of MIAA weekend matches.
The Gorillas will entertain the University of Central Missouri Friday (Oct. 11) at 6 p.m. (CDT) and Pitt State will wrap up the weekend action with a 2 p.m. match-up against Missouri Southern State University Saturday (Oct. 12.
The Gorilla Scoop
- Jen Gomez is in her ninth season leading the Gorillas. She has a 99-142 overall record at PSU while leading the program into four of the last five MIAA Tournaments.
- Kennedy Shelstead is in her first season on the sidelines at Pittsburg State as an assistant coach, with graduate assistant Hannah Delor beginning her second season helping mentor the Gorillas.
- Pitt State is 7-8 overall (2-3 MIAA) on the season. The Gorillas began the week with a four-set victory on the road against Newman Tuesday (Oct. 8).
- Statistical leaders for the season are Vix Vilott with 170.5 points (3.28 per set) and 142 kills (2.73 per set); Jesa Wallace with 273 assists (6.83 per set); Josie McCroskey with 249 digs (4.79 per set); and Anna Dean with 50 total blocks (0.96 per set).
The Opposition
- Central Missouri is 6-8 overall (2-3 MIAA) heading into the weekend and following a three-set road win against Missouri Southern Tuesday. Elinor Engel with 219.5 points (3.99 per set) and 190 kills (3.45 per set). Kayla Baer has dished out 402 assists (11.49 per set). Grace Winkelmann leads the team with 259 digs (4.71 per set) and Rachel Ziesman has accumulated 62 total blocks (1.13 per set).
- Missouri Southern is 2-14 (0-5 MIAA) after suffering the 3-0 defeat at the hands of UCM Tuesday. Amelia Neels leads the team with 174.0 points (2.90 per set) and total blocks with 47 (0.78 per set). Alana Moesch has accumulated 142 kills (2.58 per set), Landrey VanOverschelde leads the team with 464 assists (8.29 per set) and Kyla Randall this season has 354 digs (5.90 per set).
