Pitt State Athletes Wrap Up Ninth Annual Gorilla Indoor Classic Action

PITTSBURG -- Pittsburg State University men's and women's indoor track & field athletes wrapped up action in the Ninth Annual Gorilla Indoor Classic Saturday (Feb. 10) at the Robert W. Plaster Center.

Diandrenique Gaines headlined the day two performances for the Gorillas as she sprinted to a new school record in the semifinals of the women's 60 meters. Gaines was clocked in 7.39 seconds to edge past teammate Taniya Looney's previous record time of 7.40.

Kyla Davis (13-8.25) and Shelbi Day (13-0.25) enjoyed solid outings in the women's pole vault. Day posted a new personal record with her clearance. Blakelee Winn won the women's 60 meter hurdles with a new PR time of 8.42 seconds -- the fifth best mark in NCAA Division II this season. Erica Schamel also won the high jump with a season best clearance of 5-9 and the women's 4x400m relay of Jamiya Morgan, Olivia Lowrey, Kinleigh Hall and Yasmine Johnson posted the fifth fastest time in D2 this year with their winning effort of 3:42.72.

In the men's action, sprinters Dakari Charlton (6.71), Tevin Wright-Rose (6.72) and Xavier Carmichael (6.74) posted a one-two-three finish in the 60 meters. Grayson Smith won the pole vault (16-11.5) and the 4x400m relay of Charlton, Dapriest Hogans, Woyn Chatman and Caden Williams posted the sixth fastest time in D2 this season with their winning effort of 3:11.28. 

Cole Sample also registered a personal best throw of 58-2.75 in the shot put, while Mason Strader secured an NCAA qualifying mark in the 3,000 meters (8:04.52) and Braden Zaner (4:07.32) and Dylan Sprecker (4:08.62) both recorded PQ times in the mile run. Caden Williams added a PQ in the 400 meters (47.60) and Daylin Williams logged a PQ in the 60 meter hurdles (7.93).
