LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field athletes made their California debuts Thursday predominantly at the Pacific Coast Invitational on the campus of Long Beach State University.
Kyla Davis and Diandrenique Gaines enjoyed highlight performances by the Pitt State women in the meet. Davis recorded a personal best clearance of 13 feet, 11.75 inches in the pole vault, the second best mark in school history, while Gaines clocked a fast time of 23.95 seconds in the 200 meters.
Jamiya Morgan was clocked in 24.51 in the 200m, while Mikah Edwards posted a time of 55.72 in the 400m and Kinleigh Hall followed in 56.04 in the discipline. Auna Childress (19-4.25) and Taylor Nelloms (19-3.5) competed in the long jump, while Nelloms, Erica Schamel and Haleigh Hadley all cleared 5-7.25 in the high jump.
The women's 4x100m relay of Siby Yao, Morgan, Taniya Looney and Gaines posted a time of 45.39.
In the men's action, Daylin Williams (13.71) and Joel Nyatusah (13.83) posted fast times in the 110 meter hurdles. Sam Tudor (47-29), Woyn CHatman (47.45) and Caden Williams (47.46) added fast times in the 400 meters, with Chatman and Williams earning PRs. Dapriest Hogans was clocked in 21.32 in the 200 meters, while Xavier Carmichael and Dakari Charlton were timed in 10.51 and 10.53, respectively, in the 100 meters. Grayson Smith also cleared 16-5.25 in the pole vault.
The men's 4x100m relay of Carmichael, Charlton, Hogans and Braylon Thompson finished in 40.57.
Additionally, a half dozen Pitt State multi event athletes opened day one action of the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa, Calif., Thursday.
Blakelee Winn compiled 3264 points in the first four events of the heptathlon on the strength of top marks in the 100m hurdles (13.90) and the shot put (42-1.25). Mattie Flanagan compiled 3186 points and Payton Phillips finished day one action with 2739 points.
In the men's decathlon, Hunter Jones compiled 3958 points following five events, highlighted by his top mark of 6-9.75 in the high jump. Doug Brown exited day one action with 3599 points while Drew Wilhite compiled 3524 points.
